[Resolved] Replacement SXGA+ panel cuts out when touched
[Resolved] Replacement SXGA+ panel cuts out when touched
Here is an interesting problem that hopefully someone has an answer for. I have bought a replacement lcd panel, SXGA+ for a T42. With the panel I have also ordered the matching inverter and LVDS cable. After installing the panel and connecting the LVDS cable to the motherboard, any slight touch of the screen causes the panel to cut out/flicker for a brief moment, often less than a second. I have also tried another LVDS cable and inverter and the same thing happens. This is the first screen replacement I've done so its likely that I'm overlooking something during the install. It appears that the bottom left area where the LVDS cable is coming out from underneath the screen seems to be the most sensitive. I thought maybe there was some metal touching the cable somehow so I put some paper behind it to see if that would separate the contact but that has little effect. Any help with this would be awesome.

To me, it seems more like a bad connection inside the panel. I doubt you did anything wrong.
Re: Replacement SXGA+ panel cuts out when touched
After a little more effort, I have put some paper between the LVDS ribbon and the metal frame of the panel and the cut outs have stopped. This is clearly not normal but the panel is otherwise flawless. I don't have any electrical tape handy, so I may venture out and get some. Does anyone know if putting electrical tape alone the LVDS ribbon/cable is not wise to do?

When you open it up again to put that tape in (no problem by the way), check if there is any sharp edge that may be 'cutting' into the LCD cable. And check that the cable-guide (round black plastic "tube" at bottom of screen is sitting properly.

Re: Replacement SXGA+ panel cuts out when touched
I finally have good news to post in this forum! I was able to resolve the problem by applying electrical tape on the LVDS ribbon/cable and the metal frame of the LCD panel.
I probably put on more than was needed, but I was paranoid so whatever. I put a layer of tape along the ribbon/cable surface that faces the back side of the LCD panel AND also along the bottom left edge of the LCD panel's metal frame that presses against the ribbon/cable that comes out from beneath the LCD panel. Somewhere there was contact being made that caused the video signal to cut out.
