T43/T42 VPN (PDSQn)

#1 Post by CantabRich » Sat Feb 12, 2005 6:27 am

Like one or two others in this forum, I am doing my best to choose between a new T42/T43. So far, given:

1. the absence of a SATA hard-drive;
2. the absence of HD audio (Azalia?);
3. potentially reduced battery life (T43 as against T42),

I am having difficulty justfying the three week wait until a T43 becomes available in my location. The PCI Express slot is attractive and the hard-wired security looks sensible. The faster graphic capability might potentially be useful for that 0.5% of the time when I need HD graphics. However, in truth, I am having difficulty justifying sitting on my hands any longer. Right now, buying a T42 (even a used unit) and replacing it in 24 months with a Yonah unit seems like a better strategy than waiting three weeks and potentially paying a premium for a T43 which will become obselete in Spring 2006.

However, before I proceed to purchase the T42, can anyone assist me one (Pretty [censored] Stupid) question: if, at work, we install a VPN, is there any reason for performance of the T43 over the VPN to exceed the performance of the T42? Is the faster memory going to make any difference at all? Or is the VPN performance principally linked to the type of connection through which the VPN is established?

I would be grateful for any advice on this matter, and any other reasons I should delay my purchase, and possibly pay a premium, for the T43.

(Yes, I have already reviewed the other T43 posts on this forum.)

VPN will not be affected by the differences of either of these laptops really, VPN is definatly more dependant on your network and software, not the rest of the systems hardware.

Thank you; I thought as much, but in the absence of actual experience thought it best to request confirmation. Thanks!
