SOLD: Rare PowerPC Find FS: Thinkpad Power Series 800
SOLD: Rare PowerPC Find FS: Thinkpad Power Series 800
This is a very nice and uncommon machine, which looks like it has never been used. This model, the 6020-060 (model 860) was very unique - based on the RS/6000 processor.
Specs for this machine include the following:
PowerPC 603e(TM) 166MHz microprocessor that offers faster CPU performance.
Large size, 12.1-inch (maximum viewable area measured diagonally) active matrix Thin Film Transistor (TFT) color display for improved 1024 x 768 resolution. An external monitor of up to 1280 x 1024 resolution can be connected.
Built-in GT20 Graphics Adapter for improved graphics performance, featuring video input capability, with motion video capture and play back.
Increased internal hard disk drive capability up to 2.0GB capacity.
32MB base memory expandable to 96MB
Integrated CD-ROM drive (2x)
PCMCIA slots (two Type II) available for telecommunications
SCSI-2 port available for external device connection
Space-saving keyboard with an integrated TrackPoint III(TM) (two button) pointing device; external three-button standard
Built-in stereo speakers and microphone
Power management functions incorporated with operating systems
Energy Star compliant
Now, I will be honest and share that I do not know what size drive is in it, or how much memory it has. I've not opened it, and don't plan to tamper with it. It does not include the AC adapter, it wasn't available when I picked up this machine. The keyboard looks like brand new, as if it has never been used. And the red pointer on the keyboard looks new too. This would make a very cool addition to someone's collection of Thinkpad history.
And who could turn down something that used a marketing gem like this from October of 1996:
"By offering IBM's award-winning AIX(R) operating system, users can choose from thousands of outstanding industry-leading applications. "
I'll send pics to anyone who is interested. I'm looking for $100 (+ 3 percent paypal), which will include postage within the US.
Thanks,
-Ted

I have two but I think they are much older (eg. they look 720 series) I think the one you have looks like 760 right?RealBlackStuff wrote:For those interested, look at the pics (top left links) in this posting: http://users.cs.fiu.edu/~ayanic01/rs6k/

That's an awesome looking machine, but more or less useless by today's standards. For a collector, if it is in nice shape it's a goldmine though.

I sent the first person to respond a link to the pics. I'm including pics for others who may be interested.
As it turns out, this is an 800 (Type 6020-060), not an 860. I've read that the 800 was never released to the market, but was intended for employees to test with, and limited customer testing, listing for as high as $12k originally.
It's a cool machine. Very unique.

The pics are large. Taken with a 10MP Nikon SLR camera, so be patient for them to load.
(Something tells me it's worth more than $100.)

That is no doubt, a beautiful piece of machinery, and would LOVE to get my hands on it... Too bad these are rough times for picking up something like this... Two years ago, I would have figured out how to get $100 to you, without my wife knowing...LOL

Not ignoring you. One person ahead of you who I need to get one additional picture to. If they decline, you're next up, then another offer after you.
