X41 fingerprint reader upgrade
X41 fingerprint reader upgrade
Hi all,
I've done some searching on this forum but I found almost no information, so I thought I'd ask it myself then.
Has anyone ever done a fingerprint reader upgrade to an X41?
I have looked at the HMM and there are no different part numbers for the planar mentioned with respect to the fingerprint reader. Does this suggest that all X41 machines can be upgraded to fingerprint reader? Interested to know if anyone has done this before..
Thanks,
Regards,
Ross..

Re: X41 fingerprint reader upgrade
I do have a FP reader equipped X41. The MB has a flex cable connector that other X40/X41 don't have.
Looking at the parts list, models xxxx-5xx, -6xx, -Exx, -Fxx have FP Readers. The 512MB L2 MBs cover these models. So your best bets are these MBs.

Re: X41 fingerprint reader upgrade
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. What did you mean by "L2"? Unless the HMM lies, I find that the FRU is the same for any "512MB 1.6G" X41, so in theory they should all have this functionality..(??)
I have a 512MB X41, so maybe I'll get lucky. I'll open it up later today to see if there is a cable inside it.

Ross..

Re: X41 fingerprint reader upgrade
Hi,
I opened up my machine and I can see the flex cable connector near to the Lithium battery on the right side.
So I guess my machine can be upgraded for fingerprint reader if I get all the parts together. For the record, my machine is a: 2525-C3M.
Which is a 512MB/1.6G motherboard. Perhaps all the 1.6/512 boards are upgadeable..(??)

Re: X41 fingerprint reader upgrade
Sorry for confusing you. That 512MB is not L2 (level 2 cache) but on MB DRAM. Yes, the small flex cable connector just to the right is for the FP reader. Yes, xxxx-Cxx, -Dxx both use the same MB as -Exx, -Fxx according to the hardware parts list.

Re: X41 fingerprint reader upgrade
Just did the upgrade and works fine. So X41 finger print reader is a pretty easy upgrade if one can get all the parts together..
