My screen is fixed. The tech rep came out last week to install a new screen. That new screen had a big pink line through it. He returned the next day with a third screen that's perfect (and he had a fourth one in the car just in case!). Good thing - my husband thought we were spending too much time together :) . I'm impressed with the quality of IBM tech support - not too impressed with the quality control in the LCD screens (made by Samsung).

Everything is installed and up and running. And it's all perfectly fine (even the Northgate keyboard on the dock). I can only see the performance improvement with the digital photography - and the improvement there is huge (that's probably because 512 megs of ram is 4 times better than 128).

The memory key is very cool for small backups. I just wish it was a cheaper backup medium. I bought a USB zip drive (Iomega has a rebate offer and Office Depot had a $15 coupon - so it seemed like a good time to buy one). I find that zip backups suit my backup needs better than other things I've tried (I always keep one backup offsite in a safe deposit box - and one at home).

I have to say that the single most impressive thing about the configuration is the dock. I have everything (and I mean *everything*) plugged in - keyboard, monitor, mouse, camera, ethernet, removables like a floppy drive, card reader, Zip drive - the kitchen sink. There's a place for everything - and everything - whether legacy or bought yesterday - works fine.

Only feature I haven't fiddled with is the wireless - because I don't have wireless in my house. I did however manage to pick up my neighbor's wireless connection from 3 doors down :) . Anyway - I'd be glad to answer any questions you have if I can. Robyn (Confused)

Experts can you comment on this? I thought it was impossible to get defective pixels fix unless there are at least eight of them? Did this person get lucky? Or is it because she has onsite warranty?

that should be "fixed" instead of fix. I try my best in spelling.

I'm not an expert - but I asked the tech rep about this when he was here. He said the company policy used to be more strict - but that it's been relaxed as the price of screens has come down. Don't know if this is true - that's just what he told me.

I guess if you didn't have an on-site warranty - you'd have to mail the machine in to get it fixed. I've seen people here talk of "popping in a new screen" - but there are a bunch of wires in that area - for the wi-fi antenna and the like. It's sure not a job I'd want to do myself. And that doesn't even take into account the dozen little screws and the special screwdrivers the tech rep used to get the screws out (and back in). Robyn (Confused)
