Before I get too excited, could someone else confirm that their X61 can read 8/16GB SDHC cards when running Windows 7 64 bit please?

Question for X61 users running Windows 7 64 bit
I've just put a SDHC 16GB class 10 card into the slot and Windows recognises it as a 16GB SDHC card. I was under the impression that the X61 only had a SD card slot.I was bored and wanted to see what would happen
Before I get too excited, could someone else confirm that their X61 can read 8/16GB SDHC cards when running Windows 7 64 bit please?

Re: Question for X61 users running Windows 7 64 bit
Thanks Mark but the X61 tablet has an official SDHC slot from what I can workout but the X61 (laptop version) is supposed to be SD only. So yes, you should be able to read/write 16GB cards but I shouldn't !!

Re: Question for X61 users running Windows 7 64 bit
I take it one of the mods moved this topic. Although I mention Windows 7 it could also be for Vista 64 bit users (or XP 64 bit if anyone ever got it running) which is why I posted it on the X6 forum and not this one

Re: Question for X61 users running Windows 7 64 bit
The hardware is more or less agnostic about SD or SDHC, it's the driver which makes the difference. This is true for the card readers which are attached directly to the PCI bus of the motherboard, nor for any USB attached internal or external readers (actually it would be true true for these as well, but you can't change the reader firmware which converts between SD(HC) and USB).
This is why SDHC works on the X61(s), if the driver is right. For Vista the driver came with SP1, if I remember correctly. For XP there is a private fix, available from Microsoft on demand. Of course for Win 7, the driver is right from the start. It shouldn't matter if the OS is installed in the 32 bit or 64 bit version.
Regards, Martin

Re: Question for X61 users running Windows 7 64 bit
That'll explain it than. Thanks Martin, I was using XP on it before and it only read SD cards - I always thought it was a hardware thingie not software/firmware.

For what it's worth, Win7x64 works fine with my 16GB SDHC in my x61s.
