Created Rescue Media Wiped External Drive

I created the files from the "Create Rescue Media" on my external hard drive, and it wiped my external hard drive. Does anyone know how I can get the files off that drive or are they gone forever?

They are gone. The 'Create Rescue Media' function is used to burn the rescue image to a CD disc. It would erase any other media.
