intel 2200bg vs. broadcom BCM94318MPG

#1 Post by Paul Unger » Sun Oct 04, 2009 9:52 pm

I have two wireless cards as per the subject line; the intel card came with my T42 while the broadcom was salvaged from a D*ll D610. A datasheet for the 2200bg indicates output power of 15 dBm while the 4318 has output power of 20 dBm. Unfortunately, the broadcom card gives me an 1802 error on boot. Can anyone tell me if it's worth the hassle to do the BIOS hack (if it would even work for the broadcom card)? I'm trying to reach a network (that I have permission for), but I'm three walls away from the access point and can't quite reach it with the intel card ... If anyone has experience with these cards, I'd be happy to hear from you!

I use the similar BCM94306MP extensively on T23 and T4x, using Dell drivers (sic!).
On the T40/41/42-R50/51 models, the NO-1802 hack works fine (but not on a T43/R52).
All that does is change 1 bit in BIOS. You can't do any damage by applying it.
There seems to be an UNDO-hack available, or you can just update your BIOS to get rid of it also.
