Fingerprint readers. Some have and some don't....

#1 Post by Worzyl » Tue Oct 06, 2009 10:20 pm

4 questions on this topic.

1) If you purchase a t60p without a fingerprint reader, how easy is it to add one later? Would you have to by additional hardware other than a new palmrest with the reader swipe?

2) If your family/friend wanted to use your laptop, would you have to be around for them to use it?

3) Who here uses them?

4) Is it worth it?
T60p 2007-CT0 15" UXGA, ATI V5250, INTEL T7600, 3GB RAM, NMB Keyboard, HP Broadcom 4322AGN 802.11n Wireless Card, Sierra Wireless MC8775 WWAN, 250GB Momentus XT Hybrid drive

A: a bit of a job. one needs to go thru the hassle of ordering parts and opening up the machine.

2) If your family/friend wanted to use your laptop, would you have to be around for them to use it?
A: not necessarily, unless boot up required password (fingerprint) via BIOS or hard drive password.
Otherwise, simply create a Guest account for them to use, which would allow for a typed-in password and no fingerprint enrollment on their part.

3) Who here uses them?
A: I do, on three machines.

4) Is it worth it?
A: Yes, as a convenience, but not necessary.

Thanks for the info. The only part I can see to order is (42W3011) palmrest with the reader. So does anyone know what the additional hardware is along with the fru numbers?

I've got it and it's not at all worth spending any money to add imo.
