Canada: Best place to buy x40 and who's Bill?

#1 Post by n00b1337 » Sat Feb 12, 2005 11:49 pm

Decided to pick myself up a x40. i'm still on a tight budget so i don't think a new x40 will be an option for me. I was thinking about buying a refurbished x40 from ibm.ca. Here's the link for the laptop I'm looking at.

http://caipsgws001.can.ibm.com/store/fa ... ebflag=RFT

It's the one for $1399. So what do you all think of this model? It's the 1Ghz ULV Banias with 256mb ram and 20gig HD. I don't know if there's any wireless built into this model. What I'm concerned about is whether this unit will come with any dead pixels on the LCD. I'd really like a x40 with a screen with no dead pixels. The model number for this unit is 2371-13U. I have no idea what this means. Anywhere better to buy an x40 in Canada? I'd also rather not order one from Ebay, I already got my x21 from there. My experience was ok but I think in this case I'd feel more confident ordering from IBM direct.

Also who's Bill? I heard people mention Bill saying he could help someone hand pick a thinkpad if they were picky about things suck as dead LCD pixels. Any help would be much appreciated. I love my x21 but i like the idea of having built-in wireless and pentium m processor.

I have a better x40 than that for sale, but I'm in the US and it's a bit more. Has 2.5 years of warranty left too, and it was purchased brand new.
