Charge Circuit - Physical location of TPC8203 on mb
Charge Circuit - Physical location of TPC8203 on mb
Hi all,
I recently got hold of the t41_block_01_v1.1.pdf charging block diagram for the t41 - huge thanx to whoever did it
It can be found here
Ive got a t40 & was looking for the two TPC8203 fets on the mb. Based on t41_block_01_v1.1.pdf the only fets I can see near the ADP3806 are 2x TPC8014 & a TPC8109 - I think Ive found all the other parts from the block diagram.
Could somebody give a rough indication as to where Id find the TPC8203 on the mb or the mb descriptor (eg U43) that they are near pls?
Thanx in advance,
billy

After tracing the board I found that the fet used on a t40 is a FDS6990A (Q4) (not a TPC8203), located on the underside of the m/b near the L5 inductor
.... maybe this will help others

Thanks! (a few years later, it did indeed help someonebillymm wrote:After tracing the board I found that the fet used on a t40 is a FDS6990A (Q4) (not a TPC8203), located on the underside of the m/b near the L5 inductor

My T41 has the not-charging problem. All fuses check out ok, so I'm going to replace the FET (I kept my old T30 parts, so will steal the TPC8203 off that mobo for the T41).
Got: T61p, T41, T43p
Had: T410, T60, T30, 600e

Bleh.. replaced the FET, still got the problem, so by process of elimination, the problem is the controller chip - the adp3805.
Annoyingly, its a different version to the one used on T30, so I don't have a convenient spare.. which means I'll continue to live with no battery-charging on the T41 (its only used by the kids for basic browsing and flash educational stuff).

I'd check that L5 inductor. While the T4x systems are not known to have a common problem with loose inductors (like that of the T23), if that inductor is open or detached from the motherboard, then the battery won't charge.
