What does the numbers mean?

Hey everywhere on the forum people have some letters and numbers on there signatures, but what does it mean?

I am buying a Thinkpad 42P model 2373-Q2G here in march month but what does the Q2G refers too?

The first 4 numbers refer to the model and the last three letters and numbers refer to the configuration.

My t41p i a 2374-GGG

2374 is the same as the 2373, but it has a 3 year on-site warranty.

Is it possible to submit a number like: 2373-KYG at the ibm website and then view the specs for that particular model?
