Any speed improvement with SSD?

anybody in here tried SSD on a T23? did you notice any speed imporvement? Is it worth it? I love that computer and I want to modernize it a little bit.

You'll definitely see major improvements in throughput and latency on a SSD. A lot of lower end SSDs have stuttering issues, which is perhaps more annoying than any performance gains you'll get. Unfortunately the world has moved onto SATA drive so no one's putting any money into PATA drives any more. I think there's a couple threads around here from people with the Super Talent PATA SSD if you want to have a look.

I really like the Intel X-25 M 80 gig drives; I have them in three T60s and one HP machine. Newegg has them on sale in the $250.00-range. More than $150, but to me it's a "get what you pay for" deal.

I have experience with a OCz SSD (64 gig) and it has been decent, but not up to the Intel units in performance.

1. is there a limit that the T23 can do in terms of reads/writes per second?
2. why is the transcendent with read 47 and write 51, three times more expansive than super talen which has read 40 and write 80? is there anything that i am missing here?

into the HD bay of my T21 with a 4-8gb cf card in it can i simply install windows onto it and make my machine SSD?

if so, how?

compact flash is slower than HDD, so you are better of not doing it.

There IS a throughput limit dependent on your T23's IDE controller, but I don't know what the exact figures are...

Somebody call?? Sorry to say that I'm not sure what the transfer characteristics are for the hard drive controller inside the T23. I can go off and do some research but if it's anything like the one in an X22, then you might see some small increase in the performance of an SSD over a rotating platter. Certainly the most useful reason to go to an SSD is that it makes the system more shockproof. It was the primary selling point for me when I upgraded the X22 for my daughter.

thanks ray, i guess there isn't really a point of slamming SSD into that machine. i will stay with my 120gb hdd and just upgrade the ram to full 1gb
