Dock II Floppy and USB Ports

#1 Post by Paul S » Tue Jun 08, 2004 8:26 pm

What external floppy drives will work with the floppy port of the Dock II?

Is the answer to above question dependent on the model of Thinkpad using the Dock II (I am using a T40)?

I would like to buy a used floppy drive to connect to the floppy port as I am running into incompatibility problems with accessing USB storage devices from the Dock II USB ports in DOS and there may be incompatibilities with the USB Floppy Drive in this situation.

Can all four USB ports on the Dock II be used at the same time with the two USB ports on the Thinkpad? I thought that the USB ports on the Thinkpad are pass-thru ports that are wired to two hubs in the Dock II. Software detects the Dock II USB ports as external hubs and it seems the USB ports are powered by the Dock II.

the port replicator ports are pass through but the dock has its own controller so you can use they all at the same time.

The usb floppy drive is the official option for fdd on your machine but if you want to use the dedicated port on the dock you need an older drive (either the 600/570 own or an ultrabay 2000 floppy drive with the tseries cable kit)
