Do you mean USB port that supply 500mA of current or a separate power port that is stack below the USB Port like those on a X41 Tablet (had a X41 T with 1 "powered USB" port, but could not find any powered USB cord or accessory to go with it.

I believe he is asking if the USB port will charge devices like iPods while the machine is powered off.

I think I mean do the usb ports provide 500mA of power. If I get an X60 I want to use it with 2 midi controllers that both take their power from the ports, so basically want to know if they will work.

Do your midi controllers have separate DC plugs? Do you know their input power requirments? If they are alway on and continously draw max power from the USB port, you are better off using separate power supplies for them. It will be expensive to repair the fried USB ports on the X60 system board (especially if the warranty has expired)

For me, the only device that draws substantial power from the USB port is the portable USB Hardrive. However, my HD is not always on, and I have the Y split cable to source power from 2 USB ports to support it. I have successfully run USB HD using newer low power HD (requires 450mA, instead of 650mA or 800mA) with the cable connected to a single USB Port. So the 500mA current is there.

I have a X61 Tablet, which is similar to X60 series in specs.

They are designed to run completely off the usb ports and only draw 180ma each. They do not even have sepearte power supplies. I am having problems running them off my eepc 900ha. Despite working for monthes with no problem, one channel has started to come through very low and I can't seem to fix it. Hence one of the reasons I am considering an x60s as it will be a far more powerful machine and hopefully will not have this issue.

Were you running the eepc 900ha on battery or plugged in? Power management may be the culprit. Try adjust the setting to maximum performance and see if that helps. Also, do you have a y split cable than usually came with USB Hard drives? See if sourcing power from 2 USB ports resolve your issue.
