R51 update bios or embedded controller first ?

#1 Post by jor-el » Sun Feb 13, 2005 5:34 pm

hello,

I own an r51 2887,
current bios v.1.16 , embedded controller 1.02.

I cannot update further because bios 1.17 (or up) only works with embedded controller 1.03, and vice versa!
Bios update page says "if you need to update both, update the bios first" , while embedded controller update page says the opposite!

Since I have no technical insight to what the embedded controller does, can anywhone safely recommend which to update first?
thanks.

RTFM:

"- If you need to update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller

Program, update BIOS first."

"-If you need to update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller Program, update Embedded Controller Program first."

I already know the bios page says the opposite..

You are right there is a contradiction between your link and the txt- readme file.

I am sorry for the RTFM.

I would trust the readme...

thanks...
I'm sorry for rtfq too :/

It's also contradictory in the respective readme's, I think - it's surely contradictory in the respective html pages.

Anyone who can help is welcome.

Thanks again,
jor-el.

On my R51 (1836H7U), I just did the update and installed the controller update first and then the BIOS and it appears to have worked just fine.

I suppose if it didn't hang it's alright.

Your machine type (1836H7U) uses a different bios, same restriction though.

So do you run the controller utility,
Then restart to windows,
Then run the bios utility?

Thanks,
jor-el
