Anybody running "Myth" TV? Mythbuntu 9.04?

#1 Post by John H » Wed Oct 14, 2009 2:27 pm

Is anybody running "Myth" TV? Especially Mythbuntu 9.04?

I'm motivated to install Mythbuntu in hopes of getting an HDTV receiver going on it. That will mean I can quit using Windows XP entirely since the TV viewer is the last program I have on XP.

I just burned the Mythbunto 9.04 desktop i386 CD and I'm ready to go. I figure that the first thinkpad I'll try to setup is my venerable T40, especially since it's old XP is getting cranky.

I have two USB HDTV sticks that I've used on XP, a Hauppage 950 and an Aver Volar. I'm thinking of adding an HDHomerun, or something similar.

About a year ago I started down the Mythbuntu road, but it seemed to get complicated in a hurry.

I've just discovered that AverMedia CLAIMS that one can use MPlayer or Kaffeine to watch HDTV from the Volar MAX. So that wouldn't require MythTV. Of course, the bad news is that the Aver instructions are unintelligible.

Has anyone used Kaffeine to watch OTA ATSC on a Aver Volar MAX?
