original genuin battery Vs compatible ones; the best choice?

#1 Post by OMNIBUS » Wed Oct 14, 2009 3:33 pm

hallo
i have to buy a new battery for my TP, the last ones is died!
i found many compatible batterys with the same features of the original genuine ones, so my question is:
has the compatible battery the same life and reliability of the original genuine ones or what are the differences?
could the compatible battery give compatibility or bios error issues?
thankyou

From my experience, the generic batteries are usable, and rarely cause problems.

I haven't used the generic ones before, but from what I hear, they're comparable to genuine when they're new, but they lose charge much more quickly than the genuine ones.
And if you get the ones with cells made in japan, they're said to be pretty similar to genuine, given that genuine uses very nice sanyo cells.

Hello

I have the x200 and the x40 (and a few more thinkpads). I used the compatible batteries in the past and here's my experience:

+ If you have to get the compatible battery, get the highest capability you can get (8-9 cell). The reason is that they'll lose charge very fast after 8-10 months or so of use. My x40 will shut down when its 9-cell battery reaches 62%. Voltage looks right, battery information utility doesn't indicate anything abnormal. Still I can get about 5-6 hours out of it before it shuts down.

+ The extra cost of the original battery is worth it for the smaller cell battery.
