FS: R40- ***SOLD SOLD SOLD***

#1 Post by emeraldgirl08 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 1:17 pm

Hello all! Things have come up that are forcing me to sell my R40! Hate to do it but have to! :( The R40 is a 2683-DU1 model for minor parts/repair needed. I had originally received this as a barebones project. I have just recently added components and have done a factory reinstall w/ Xp Professional SP3.

Specs are:

2.0 ghz Pentium 4
14.1 XGA Screen (in excellent shape)
768 mb DDR Ram
40 gb Hitachi Travelstar 4200 rpm HDD w/ XP Professional SP3 COA included
Actiontec Wireless "B" card
DVD/CD Drive
(2) 2.0 USB Ports
(1) PCMCIA slot
Battery (Has about an hour of charge time- depends on usage)

No ac adapter

The reason I am classifying it as parts/repair is that there is one bottom-case screw missing. The HDD cover is also for an R40 w/a firewire port which this laptop does not have. Buyer will also have to supply own AC adapter. I have an extra but use it for testing purposes.

Case-wise the plastics are very good. The keyboard is in excellent shape w/ no fading letters and has an NMB keyboard. The LCD lid has very lite scuffs- nothing major. There is a small protruding piece of trim where the hard drive and PCMCIA slot meet. I found when you tighten the bottom-case screw in near the joint it causes the trim to slightly bulge outward. Not sure why but may be an easy fix. There are also two bottom-case screws that are a different color but fit. Certainly doesn't hinder the performance of this R40 but I know there are meticulous Thinkpadders in here :)

I have run W7 on this but Xp Pro works better for it so far IMO.

I also had to remove the CPU Fan to get a look at how the thermal compound looked and was surprised to see a CPU Pad there. I went ahead and cleaned off the Fan-CPU contact areas then reapplied a very thin-line of AS5. It does run without any problems and does not seem to suffer from any overheating problems.

I'm asking for $120 for this package; for shipping add an additional $10. I am open to removal of the hard drive, memory, or DVD/CD drive to lower costs. I will do my best to make sure that this is packaged nicely and safely. I choose to use USPS as it is more convenient for me. I will accept PayPal with a 3% fee.

I will not sell components separately from this sale.

Pics are available here. R40 Pics.

Edit: I received the hard drive screw today :)
It's silver in color but fits nicely. I also lowered the price again :)
