Signs of a dying hard drive?

#1 Post by kerryh8er04 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 3:08 pm

I'm kinda wondering what some signs are of a drive going bad... my computer for the last month has been doing funny things from BSODing a lot to saying that I less free space on my hard drive and by less I mean 3 -4 gigs less in a day of usage. All I use this computer for is internet and word stuff nothing that would use up 4 gigs I don't know where the added information is going and some days it will say I have all of the used up space back, also I have noticed my computer has slowed down a lot. I did a fresh install of vista over the summer. There's no reason for it slowing down so bad in just a few months.

So if my drive is going out should I a put down the money and get a SSD or get more drive space and get a normal hard drive?

You can use HDTune and see the drive health or do a surface scan.

Some people say SSDs are great, but I didn't really notice a huge difference myself. I think the first thing you should do ensure you have a backup.
