Can i put DDR2-6400 into my T43?

#1 Post by Cyberstudio » Wed Oct 21, 2009 4:32 pm

I know that the T43 only sopports up to DDR2-5300. but... What will happen if put DDR-6400 into it? Will it work at 5300 speeds, or will not work at all?

T43/T43p is actually PC2-4200, 533Mhz data rate, 266Mhz clock.

Mmmm.. but according to crucial.com, the T43 can handle DDR2-5300.

I bought 2GB (2x1) of DDR2-6400 from ebay. I hope that my system can handle it. :(

The Crucial site recommends DDR2-667/PC2-5300, but sjthinkpadder is correct because the T43 takes DDR2-533/PC2-4200 as standard. The point to note is that the memory is designed to be compatible with slower machines so DDR2-800/PC2-6400 should work in your T43.

Cyber let us know if it does work.

I have a question similar to this so I'll post mine in a separate thread.

There are many similar questions if faster RAM work in slower machines and yes, they do, in most cases. But they don't work faster than what the system was designed for. In this case, PC2-4200. IBM/Lenovo had officially said that their PC2-5300 RAM will work in T43/T43p, PC2-4200 machines. Many members here had reported PC2-6400 also work in T43/T43p.

Will faster RAM give any performance advantage in T43/T43p? No, they work at the speed of the system. The only advantage for many of us is flexibility; the ability to use that stick later in a T60, T61, etc.
