R60 Board Upgrade
R60 Board Upgrade
I'm not up to speed on which boards can be used where. I believe for the T60 the boards are the same for the 14" and 15" models. The 15" models use an extender for the optical drive. Is that true for the R series as well or can I use a T60 board in a R60 model. I might like the upgrade my board to a X1400 model. There's a few games I'd like to play that the X1300 doesn't cut it so to speak. The ones I can find right now are kind of expensive. The T60 boards are much more plentiful and less expensive. It's not really worth it for me to spend $200 to go from the X1300 I have now to the X1400. Thanks for any help.

Re: R60 Board Upgrade
My thoughts would be along these lines: what are you trying to accomplish?
My understanding is that you can't throw a T60 board into a R60, but I might be wrong.
Have you looked into R61 boards? These would get you the ability to run 4GB RAM or more...

Re: R60 Board Upgrade
Well, I got a few games that I think would be playable on the X1400, but aren't cutting it on the X1300. That would be my main goal. I thought about the R61 boards. I don't care about the memory, but I've got the Blu-ray drive and the 140m card I believe can help off load decoding from the CPU. CPU usage can get quite high during playback, but who wants to put a known defective card in their machine? Knowing I can't use a T60 board is the information I was after. Thanks for the reply.

Re: R60 Board Upgrade
Have you considered purchasing a 15" R60 with the X1400 board and just moving your components over? You could then sell your "downgraded" R60 to recoup the purchase price. I'm pretty sure the net cost would be under $100 after all is said and done. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. I may have just the machine for you.

Re: R60 Board Upgrade
I'll answer the first question. The R60 doesn't woirk like the T60. There is a diifferent motherboard for 15" machines. A T60 board won't fit at all because the hard drive mounts differently and the 15" R60 has an s-video port that blocks the area.
