Hard Drive Swap after Replacing T42 Compatibility Question

#1 Post by james2008 » Thu Oct 22, 2009 9:35 am

I am having a broken T42 (2374 BH4) replaced under warranty with a used/refurbished T42 that's a comparable model. When I last switched computers, (from a T42 to this T42 2374 BH4), I simply swapped hard drives, and the T42 2374 BH4 worked fine. I was able to keep my OS and application configurations. I'd like to do that again, and I'm wondering what components in the replacement should be the same in order a hard drive swap to work.

As long as it's a T42 motherboard, it should just work.

The only reason for a swap-in to not work is if the base hardware (chipset) is different. Most notably, the hard drive controller - if it's not the same and the driver is not compatible, Windows will crash.

In your case, the only possible differences might be in some of the built-in peripherals (WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerptint). But that shouldn't affect overall system usability, just possibly require you to install a driver.
