System Update 4 is out

#1 Post by PiZzA EnGiNeEr » Thu Oct 22, 2009 11:31 am

SU4 is up on lenovo.com for download. Just used it on a couple machines and it picked up a few updated drivers that were not originally on the 7 download page. Might be worth installing and checking it out.

I tried this on a T60 and had good luck. Since the machine was already running Windows 7 RTM there were only three new items to download and install.

By the way, the list of Windows 7 qualified machines on that site does not include many of the older ones, but my R52, and R50p like Windows 7 just fine. I just had to install features and drivers the "hard way", and some of those showed up on Microsoft's Windows Update anyway.

Nice to have good old System Update back again!

Just be aware that SU4 is ONLY for W7 and does NOT support previous Windows versions!

I just used it after installing Win 7 over my old XP. It did seem to add a few drivers, but I thought it was going to install other software modules (power mgr, productivity, bluetooth, etc.). Am I missing something, or do I need to go back and install the other programs?

Thanks,
Gary

Discontinued Tools – ... We simply are not porting them to work in Windows 7.

So, the system updater is only updating certain drivers? I didn't see a list of the ones that system updater was changing.

So far, Win 7 is working nicely on my machine, except for the things I haven't gotten to yet (e.g. hotkey, etc.)

What model is your Thinkpad? I think that the older the model is, the less drivers specific to W7 that you'll see from Lenovo. From what I could gather reading and listening to the EE videos and press releases, any machine from the T6X series and older wasn't getting as much attention from Lenovo development specifically for Windows 7. My take on it is that if System Update does not show a driver, and it is not listed in the Driver Matrix for that model at Lenovo.com, then the driver is either native to Windows 7 or a supported driver does not exist yet. In which case you are on your own trying older Vista drivers or Lenovo beta drivers etc.

I think beta drivers are your best bet -

I am having similar issues with my T400 (2764-CTO). I did a clean install of Win7 professional (64bit), and downloaded and installed System Update V4 (clean install of WIN 7). System update did show a few drivers which I duly downloaded and installed using System Update. After that in control panel I saw lots of missing drivers, and when i went online to support.lenovo.com I saw lots of other drives for my T400, such as switchable graphics, Intel 5350 WiFi+WiMax drivers, etc that were not shown in system update. I tried to reboot my machine several times and re-run System Update to see if it would catch those new drivers and updates automatically, but it kept reporting no new drivers.

I was able to manually download and install these drivers of course, but that is less than ideal since I will not be able to automatically get any updates. My System Update also does not show the drivers that I installed manually. Do I need to do anything special to have System Update get ALL updates automatically? The T400 is a current system, so I hope the drivers and porting applications to Win7 will get attention from lenovo ... My next system update is Win7 on my trusty T60 laptop.

Finally -- Where can I install all the other software that came with my laptop (with windows Vista) ? PowerDVD, the CD burning software, etc.

thanks!

I've installed SU 4 on my z61t with 7 Ultimate 64 however it returns only 'No packages applicable to your system were found.' There are plenty of Windows 7 specific downloads on the website for this machine.

Any ideas?

It seems like I am the only one in this world who is having problem with SU4 and Win7...

I have Win7 Ultimate 32bit installed on T60p
Everything is working fine
I then install SU4, and after I launch, I get some funky error message about configuration file incorrect, and wait to restart, and it'll restart and give me the same error
I have to use task manager to kill the process and get rid of this infinite loop

I do see that SU4 download page suggested .net 2.0.
I didn't install it, thinking that Win 7 already has .net 3.5 installed

Do I need .net 2.0 installed BEFORE I run SU4?

Thanks

The Vista version of the Productivity Center works fine in Windows 7.

System Update will basically offer you updates, when they are available, on any installed Lenovo drivers (etc), no matter how they got onto the ThinkPad.

I understand that but I was asking:

1. why some of the drivers that are on the website when I search for my machine (2764-CTO) and Win7 are not found when using System Update. Do I have to do something to see and install those drives using system update rather than manually.

2. How do I get the applications (e.g. powerDVD) installed after a clean win7 install.

thanks

What was it about "when they are available" that you didn't understand?

If you must have everything right now, you can manually download the drivers (etc) as they appear on the Lenovo web site.
