My university has introduced Perfigo Wireless security across the network which requires us to log in before being able to access the network using a wireless access point. I have no problem with such authentication measures, but Perfigo also requires various software to be implemented.
My main concern comes from being required to have all of the Microsoft Windows patches installed before being able to log on. As many of you know, IBM didn't officially support SP2 for a while after it came out. I don't want to be forced into installing potentially buggy software patches (please no comments about Windows itself -- I have no choice). Does anyone know any way around this? Any thoughts or comments on such a system?

It has been a long while since IBM issued a caution about SP2. They now issue new machines with SP2 installed. I'm not sure why you think SP2 is buggy - it is not. I have had it installed on my A30 Desktop and T41 laptop since it came out last August. Zero problems. IBM did issue updates to all their drivers and applications, so install those. Also Microsoft has been patching SP2 for security issues and other changes (17 patches since last August). My XP machines are rock solid and stable - there is no reason I can see not to proceed. ...
