Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox

#1 Post by dvanaman » Fri Oct 23, 2009 10:00 pm

The new Lenovo ThinkPad Win 7 systems have a new free application called Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox that builds on the capabilities of the previous Lenovo System Toolbox. It's a much more unified portal for getting important messages. Lenovo worked with the PC-Doctor team to create the application. You can get a preview at:

If you're wondering who PC-Doctor is, we're the people that have provided diagnostics and other system health tools for Think systems since 1997. Our team looks forward to your comments!

I won't speak for anyone else, but I could do without the advertisements to upgrade, at least the ones that were in system toolbox. I don't know if ThinkVantage Toolbox is the same.

The advertising blurb froze up 1/3rd way through.

Thank you all for your comments.

EdRic ... it's a Win7 preload currently. Not sure of the timing for hitting the download site.

Syrahnose ... not sure why it froze. It's a standard flash video. Any particular error code?

FredG ... I'm interested in understanding more about your PoV about advertising in the previous System Toolbox. Was there anything in particular that bugged you about it?

As far as I can grasp this is pretty much the replacement for the Productivity Center. Installed it and played with it a little - and I have to say I think I do prefer it over the Productivity Center.

It's available for both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Windows 7.

When you're running a diagnostic tool, it shouldn't be the time to advertise memory or hard drive upgrades. That's my opinion anyway.

Had it along with productivity center - waaaay too graphical and fancy for me (its graphics tend to chop on my x60s - not cool). Advertising is not cool, productivity center is much better. Plus - ThinkVantage button stopped working when I uninstalled ThinkVantage Toolbox - guess it's still a bit buggy.
I like productivity center because of its simple interface, instead of ThinkVantage Toolbox's in-your-face interface.
