Win 7 on a T40

#1 Post by Tony.Yarwood » Sun Oct 25, 2009 9:25 am

Hi all

I'm trying to install Win 7 on a T40 2374, not having much joy at the moment :( It doesn't get very far before it comes up with 'a required CD/DVD driver device is missing, please insert floppy etc etc.

I've been on the Lenova website, clustied all over the place with no joy.

Help anybody.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

Tony

I'm shocked that Windows 7 would be asking for a CD/DVD driver in the install routine. I'd assume it has every optical driver in the world included. Is this a retail copy of Windows or one of the Beta's?

thats the RTM. did you strip it using Vlite? it should have all the drivers and never give such error. it should be around 2 gb and not less! please match the sha1 and md5 checksums

I've heard about the high failure rate of the CDRW/DVD drive of the T40.
Mine reads CD without problem but it won't read DVD+/-.
I even tried to upate the firmware withoutmuch success.
I hardly ever used the DVDs on it.

Have you tried to install the 7 with an external DVD drive?

Hi synergy

Absolutely spot on, well done, worked a treat on an external DVD :)

Many thanks for your time and trouble.

Hi all

Quick update, got it all installed OK :) but it darned well won't see the CIsco Systems PCI Lan Adapter ver 6.3.011 not for the life of me. Even put back the HD with XP on it and dragged the drivers off of it with Driver Magician (great little utility BTW), still won't have it! Cisco's website is a maze, Win 7 is beginning to look more Vista'ish at every turn. No internet no joy, I can remember Microsoft updating some IBM stuff, but if I can't reach them aarrrgh!

Would appreciate any brainwaves :)

Best regards

Tony,

I suggest you post your question in the Windows 7 forum as it unlikely to be a T4x problem and far more likely to be an operating system problem.
T540p Win 7 Pro 64

X1 Carbon Win 7 Pro 64 for my wife.

That's a great forum :) managed to get a driver for a Netgear stick that I've got, and whoopeee got on line, got the latest updates which included software for the Cisco, double happiness.

Many thanks for your time and trouble :)
