T30 Fan Replacement

#1 Post by newyorkpaulie » Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:03 pm

I've already replaced the fan in one of my T30s (made some noise on occasion) and had no probs. Now the other one is giving me some noise too (but only rarely). I have a replacement for this one too and will do the job soon. I don't want to take a chance that the temp will climb to a fry level. My question is this... why does the manual say to remove the Battery, Ultrabay Device, Hard Disk, Backup Battery and DIMM when all you need to remove is the keyboard to get at the fan assembly? Should I choose safe rather than sorry? Anyone know the logic of all these seemingly unnecessary steps? Thanks!

I remove the battery for everything. I don't want anything to happen if I drop a screw. Other than that, it doesn't matter.

Are you talking about the "main" battery, not the backup one?

How much is a replacement fan for this?

And how much time does this tend to take?

I ask because the T30 I own is now exhibiting signs of fan failure. It beeps upon startup and I have to hit 'esc' to get it to boot properly.
