Windows 7 and the tpFanControl application

#1 Post by jeskey » Tue Oct 27, 2009 5:46 pm

I just installed Windows 7 on my T43 (2687-DTU). My thinkpad works very well again but that fan noise is so annoying. Ran across the tpFanControl thread and was trying it out (tpfancontrol_0_21.zip). I am not sure it is working because the messages i get do not seem to jive with what i have read. I started it in Active=0 mode. I get the following:

status: Fan: 0x07 / Highest: 49°C (46 46 36 49 35 n/a 30 n/a 43 46 47 n/a)
Last command: Manual: Set fan control to 0x00, Result: CMD IGNORED (PASSIVE MODE) (10/27/2009 2:37:50 PM)

LOG:
date / time / fan: 0x07 Highest 50c (46 47 36 50 35 n/a 30 n/a 44 46 47
date / time manual set fan control to 0x00. Result CMD Ignored (PASSIVE MODE)

Is this normal. I am afraid to try to actually run the program in Active=2 mode.

My fan makes a pulsing noise every 6 seconds or so and it just never seem to go off although it does speed up.

Yes, TPFancontrol works fine in Windows 7. Active mode 2 will not harm your machine.

Does the tpFanControl help the pulsing or just control the speed?

I answered my own question...the pulsing effect is still there every 5 seconds with the tpFanControl software but the fan is way quieter with the fan control software!

There is a lot of confusing information and differing opinion about this pulsing problem, is there a reliable way to stop the pulsing by either buying another fan or something else?

I believe these are the latest versions.
Bios 1.29 and EC 1.06
