exactly how do u run the no 1802 cd

#1 Post by DanDLT » Tue Oct 27, 2009 9:22 pm

luckily i saved it from last time so i know its good. i hit f1 to go to bios and select cd rom to start first.. save exit restart and i cd runs for a few seconds then nothing happens. i just see a black screen. i type in no-1802 nothing happens..
but when i try to pop out the cd i get the screen with a "/boot>" and it says error unknown command .. i turn off and install card and still get the 1802 error..

can anyone tell me what im doing wrong. i know this cd works because i used it before to fix this.

Dan, I can't really be of much help because I've never used the CD image. I have only run the no-1802 patch from a floppy disk. But, it looks to me like you don't have a boot image on your CD. Did you burn the CD as an ISO or a plain data CD?

With the floppy, the computer will boot just like a Win98 boot floppy. In fact it shows the Win98 splash and says "booting Win98", then some text appears that says something like "to run no-1802 patch press enter". That may not be exactly the way it reads as I'm doing this from memory, and it's been several months since I last had to do this.

EDIT: Now I've found this Linux boot cd image. If that is what you are using the instructions are on this page: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=20365

Well I just did this on the T30 I just repaired so here goes.

The bootable CD really just loads DOS, or maybe it's the Win98 version of DOS. It runs a batch files which gives you the message to run no-1802

So at the command prompt, type "no-1802" and hit enter. Done. Turn off. Install mini-pci card of your choice and reboot into your OS of choice. If your CD doesn't take you to a command prompt something is wrong.

ya thanks
its a plain cd and it worked last time. how can i tell if its iso or regular cd?

what happens is this i put the disk in the cd rom.. this is with no card installed
restart, hit f1 which brings me to bios set up, i select the cd rom to be first in list
hit f10 to save and exit .. it restarts then the cd starts spinning , i see a blinking cursor for
a few seconds and then nothing happens...
ok i go ahead and type in no-1802 and press enter nothing happens. so i turn off , pop the card back in and start up and still get the no-1802 error.. ok fine turn it off remove battery take out the card, put back in the original card
restart and STILL get the no-1802 error..

ok trying again, put the cd in restart hit f1 select cd rom first , hit f10 to save n exit
it restarts, the cd spins , i see a blinking cursor for few seconds then it just stays like that
with a blank screen , so i start typing no-1802 press enter.. few times then i will start beeping at each keystroke that i type.. so still nothing happens.. then, if i click the button to pop out the cd a screen pops up... now i see this on my screen

CD SHell 2.1
copyright yada yada yada
based on diskem1x by garytong and bart lagerweij
press f1 for help visit http://www.cdshelorg for more info

then is shows
Error: Unknown command entered.
[command: cd] [LIne: 1.1] [file: cdshell.ini]

they under that there is this prompt
/boot>_ and this little line is blinking

ok i type in no -1802 again press enter and it gives me
Error: Unknown command entered and gives me another
/boot>

so i start typing in no 1802 every different way i can think of and still keeps saying error unkownn command

so ok i try to put back my ol linksysnetwork adapter,, that dont work either...

ok if i start windows normally and put in the cd i can open , i see these files
boot this is a folder
images this is a folder
isolinux this is a folder

then there is a
boot.catalog icon doesnt look executeble it shows as a catalog file
then there is build icon looks executeble
and thee is a mkisofs icon looks executible
and thats it

everyone just says it worked... and it did for me last time too

maybe my disk is no good .. does anyone know where there is a working link to the
1802cd? maybe my cd is bad. cause it just gives me blank screen
unless i wait a while ill get that screen i described where everything i type gives me unknown command

ok trying again changed the order of start up to
cd
hd
removable devices
iba 4.1.07 slot 0240

also in network i have
cd

removable devices
and iba 4.10107...
..

Go to: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... et_devices

The ISO located there will fix 1802 and 019C errors. The program has a simple GUI based on "Y" and "N" answers.

Burn a copy at the lowest speed possible. Older machines sometimes have trouble with CDs burned at fast speeds. I learned that last night when I wasted about 3 CDs.

k it worked  ... this cd works lot better than my old one
geez.. thanks a bunch everyone

so back to my original problem
i got one of those usb2.0 cards that flush mount inside the slot...
well it permanently fixed its driver over the motherboard one..
so now if i turn on bluetooth radio i start getting this
USB device not recognized
one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned
and windows dont recognize for assistance click this messs

and this is while i have nothing plugged into any usb slots..and after a fresh xp install
it keeps popping up over and over again on my task bar
the bluetooth works fine its just this thing is getting on my nerves
i need to find a way to put usb1.1 back on the motherboard or somthin
if i google this.. there are tons of threads bout it.
lots of folks cured it by unplugging everything for a while and all the drivers reload
i tried that , unplugged it for 1 hour but still came back.. should i take out the little thumb
battery on the underside? how long ya think for any juice to die out ..or what do ya think..
once i turn of the bluetooth radio it stops

Pulling the CMOS battery probably will not cure the issue, it WILL however break the 1802 hack and you will need to reload it.
