Outlook Data Transfer Trauma

I'm reformatting my T-60.... HELP needed!

Does anyone know how to transfer the up-to-date Outlook data from the backup Dell I've been using -- for a month -- to my "new" machine's Outlook ? I have MS Office Enterprise 2007 with XP and when I opened Outlook it sucked up all sorts or garbage from months ago from lord-knows-where on the reformatted T-60.

I don't know how to take the data from Outlook on the Dell, convert it to a pst file, put in on my portable hard drive, and then get the new Outlook to accept it. I assume I'll have to delete the outdated sucked-up contents before I transfer.

If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. I'll PM my phone number and send you a celebrity's autograph by way of thanks when I go to L.A. next week -- if I can ever get this computer up and running to take out there. Otherwise, I may have to lug the 15 lb. latitude

I have created a pdf (3 pages) which explains how to create .pst files. If you PM me and tell me an email address I can send you the file.

On refection you don't need the pdf. This is the basis of how to create .pst files:

1. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Outlook Data File.
2. Click Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst), and then click OK.
3. In the Create or Open Outlook Data File dialog box, in the File name box, type a name for the file, and then click OK.
4. In the Create Microsoft Personal Folders dialog box, in the Name box, type a display name for the .pst folder.
NOTE Specifying a display name helps you to distinguish between different Outlook data files when you work with more than one .pst file. We recommend that you type a name that is meaningful to you.
Type a name that is meaningful to you.
If you want, type a password for this data file. (I never bother)

That's about it.

Basically you need to look for a file with .pst extension (most likely "outlook.pst") on your Dell machine.

Copy that onto your thumb drive, and transfer it into the same (T60) location, overwriting the existing .pst file.
When you do that, make sure Outlook is NOT open.
