hi,
i am currently running on windows vista but want to install windows 7 asap. however, i am not sure what will happen to the lenovo rescue and recovery partition if i install windows 7 from scratch.
another option would be to reinstall windows vista from the rescue and recovery partition and then get an upgrade to windows 7 from there. but would that leave the rescue and recovery partition intact? and would it somehow save windows 7 in there?
does anyone know???

The hidden Rescue and Recovery partition will not be disburbed or changed in any way by installing a new operating system on the C:\ partition.red_revenger wrote:hi,

It is always better to do a clean install of a new operating system rather than a upgrade. Drivers for Windows 7 will usually be automatically installed by Windows Update after the operating system is installed, and other drivers can be gotten from the Lenovo Windows 7 page:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... -HOME.html
Also, copy C:\windows\system32\driverstore folder over to a separate drive so you can point to it if other drivers fail to install from online, such as the older infrared drivers.

Based on past experience, the hidden partition itself will not be disturbed, but you will not be able to boot it until you apply the Rescue and Recovery Recovery Repair Diskette (or maybe CD soon?).
Another option that hopefully should work would be to install the Grub boot loader after installing Windows 7, then edit it so it will boot Rescue and Recovery.
The following version does not support Windows 7. I don't see one for Windows 7 yet.
Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette
More information here. Also how to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst
