Re: Anybody buying a new Lenovo laptop with W7?
I received my X200 with Windows 7 x64 preloaded this week and I can say that for the first time that I purchased a computer that did not contain tons of bloatware installed that would bog down the system from Day 1.
Sure it comes with all the ThinkVantage software but its not as much and not as noticeably in your face as it was on my T61 with Vista. They dont even force Norton down your throat anymore, instead, when you first boot up the system, it asks you if you want to install Norton and if you decline, then it wont install! No need to uninstall it later.
As usual a 60-day trial of Office 2007 comes installed but again you dont need to commit to it and they offer an uninstaller that you can run to get rid of it.
Windows 7 really flies on this machine and I'm glad I waited for it to come preloaded and didnt need to deal with the hassle of Upgrade discs and clean installs.

Re: Anybody buying a new Lenovo laptop with W7?
I just purchased a t400s which comes with Win7. The one thing that I am annoyed about is I usually like to do a clean install when i buy a new system, and unfortunately lenovo does not ship an actual Windows 7 cd. I know there's a recovery partition but form what I understand that installs windows 7 along with all the crapware with it. Any way of getting a CD from them with only the OS?

Re: Anybody buying a new Lenovo laptop with W7?
Before you do that, apparently lenovo worked together with Microsoft to further optomize Windows 7 preloads on their systems by tweeking with the registry and other parameters. So in fact it boots up and performs faster than it would if you did a clean install.
I saw a video the other day on youtube showing two T400s booting up, one with Lenovos preload and one with a clean install of Windows 7 and the preloaded system booted up noticeable quicker than the other.

Hopefully, someone will figure out how to port the optimizations and tweaks to clean installs...

My next system is going to be Win7. There is a chance it is going to be a Thinkpad.
But not any time soon, as I am perfectly satisfied with my current fleet at this point.

I hear you... my Vista T400 came stock with about 90 processes running. The Lenovo Win7 installation has only about 60 running, which is refreshing.Sandstorm83 wrote:I received my X200 with Windows 7 x64 preloaded this week and I can say that for the first time that I purchased a computer that did not contain tons of bloatware installed that would bog down the system from Day 1.

I just got my new t400s with Win7 Pro....im impressed on how much space the installation takes up. Out of the box, the install takes up 20GB of space!
I dont really see much bloatware so either the little bloatware there is takes up a lot of space or Win7 is just a huge install....

My few-weeks-old install of Windows 7 Professional, with some software* installed, is taking up 15 GB. Either your system is configured really backup-happy, or the bloatware is massive.Louis wrote:I just got my new t400s with Win7 Pro....im impressed on how much space the installation takes up. This isn't even counting the 10GB backup partition, we're talking only Win7 and whatever comes installed from factory....

try using WinDirStat to see what's taking all the space! http://www.windirstat.info
I'd like to know before I get and install my Win7 upgrade CD's if I'll need a new HD just to support the size of the OS..LOL..

Is this 32 or 64 bit Windows 7? A fresh installation (64 bit) on a X61s uses about 17GB. Actually after the installation 20GB are used up, but 3 can be reclaimed by deleting the Restore Points that are created during driver and fix installations.qviri wrote:My few-weeks-old install of Windows 7 Professional, with some software* installed, is taking up 15 GB.
