Rescue and Recovery CD fails

#1 Post by kd3yt1 » Fri Oct 30, 2009 10:01 am

I have a T43 2668-89U. I recently purchased a set of recovery cds. I have an extra hard drive so yesterday I thought I would use it and do a restore to factory settings. I just want to see what the computer was like from factory. When the cd boots up I go through the steps to start factory restore and then I get the error msg "Error #1802 Image File invalid or corrupt". Rescue and Recovery CD is p/n 41A3952. I clicked ok and system reboots and comes up with a dos restore program and that hangs up on the line that reads "Inflating C:\IBMWORKS\dowork4.cmd

Does this indicate that my recovery cd is bad? If so I need to go back to where I bought the set (<promotion of site not allowed>.com) and get a good cd.

Ideas??

Thanks

Before you do, you may want to wipe your HD first.
Get Killdisk (CD or floppy version) or DBAN (CD only), both free on the web.
If you choose CD, first burn the .iso image onto a CD.
It's self-booting.
When done, try the CD again.

Well, wiping the drive did not work. Get the same errors! Going to get a new disk and when I do we will see what happens.

I had the same problem on a recovery disk from <promotion of site not allowed>.com except it was for a T23. I tried a CD player, CDRW and a Combo Drive nothing would read the CD. I put it in my T60p and booted to Linux. I successfully made an ISO image which I burnt back onto a blank CD and was able to restore my T23. Soooo, you may want to try some of these things before you send it back. I bought the T43 recovery disks from <promotion of site not allowed>.com and they worked fine. Oh, I also bought recovery disks for a ThinkCentre from IBM and one of their disks was bad. However, IBM sent me a new set of disks the next day, so I didn't play around trying to fix the bad disk. <promotion of site not allowed>.com doesn't overnight the disks like IBM. So when I need them fast I go to IBM.
