updated few drivers, now i am mad?!

#1 Post by aki » Fri Oct 30, 2009 5:23 pm

hey guys,
few days ago, i downloaded the system update stuffs from lenovo program. Before updates i could mute my speaks WITHOUT actually mute the windows sound (no cross in volume bar). second, i could here "beep" as i press the volume up/down button on keyboard.

after updates, these 2 features are gone. how can i get it back? i remember the beep thing when press volume button was in BIOS but it's not there anymore.

added: it's T40p with XP :o
edit: sorry mods
cheers

Change the title of the thread to be more descriptive. Whatever expletive was initially used certainly was not necessary.

aki, If you told us what hardware and software you use ... and your location (which is a forum requirement) ... then you might get some help. As it stands we don't know if you use Linux on a T23 and live in India or you use Win 98 on an R40e and live in Timbuktu.

No I am not 'kidding' you. I did read your posting ... which you have subsequently edited to include your machine and OS, as well as making an apology to the mods.

Posting your locations IS a forum requirement, though.

Try restoring your system to an earlier date and see what happens.

It's a combination of the Lenovo System Interface driver and the hotkey features driver.

Thnx Harry. Apparently the profile has "City, State (or City, Country): *" which i filled in. I guess that's not the one. Should be OK now.

about hotkeys...i had installed it few days ago BUT then most of my Fn keys stop working. Fn+f3 blank screen doesn't work, or fn+f4 standby. Not sure why the hotkeys drivers messed it up. once i removed the hotkeys, fn+f3 works as before.
could it be my T40p not listed in Hotkey driver for Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000 - Notebooks :

Thanks for the profile update. Sometimes these drivers get hosed, not sure why. Try uninstalling the hotkey features driver, power management driver, and the Interface driver, then reinstall them(Interface first). Good question on the compatibility of the T40 machines with the Hotkey driver. Someone with a T40 will have to answer that one. You may have to load the original factory build that came with the machine and don't update those drivers, or if you look in the C:\drivers folder you might find the original drivers buried in a sub-folder. Try falling back to them.

yeah, i reinstalled all updates already. As i wrote before, the beep sound setting when increase volume was inside bios setting. But i cant find it anymore. In worst case, i'll format c: , haven't done it in 3years.

That's funny, I just looked at the T40 BIOS simulator and saw the same thing under config, alarm ... makes me wonder how a driver update could change a BIOS setting. That is not likely to happen under normal circumstances. Are you sure you didn't take in a BIOS update or go into BIOS and save the default settings or update that alarm option at some point?

Make sure you are using a Hotkey Driver with a version less than 2.00 because they stopped a lot of things working on various Thinkpads I've had, including a R40, X21, X31, T41 and T42p. I use 1.30.0609
