how to share files between vista and windows 7?

I just installed Windows 7 to my T400. And I have a desktop on Vista. Both are Home Premium.

Windows 7 seems to have a very nice feature called homegroup. However I found Vista doesn't support homegroup. On Windows 7's network, I can see my desktop. It's in Windows Explorer's network folder. I actually see 4 icons. Something like:
THINKPAD (computer) THINKPAD (media device) DESKTOP (computer) DESKTOP (media device)

But I can't open my desktop due to some access restriction. How do I access Vista's public folders from Windows 7, and vice versa? What is a media device? Looks very useful but what is it supposed to do?

Vista = Work Group
Win 7 = Home Group

make sure both are the same and you should be able to share files

If you're using a wireless router and want the dead, most simple type of network for sharing files, you can check out my article "Simplified Home Networking for Vista, XP, and Windows 7" at Bright Hub. It's the method I use here.
