Replace LCD with new, refurbished or pull?

#1 Post by brucehe » Tue Nov 03, 2009 2:03 pm

I tried replacing the inverter and that did not get my screen back. I am assuming since I have dvi (from docking station) and vga outputs it is the LCD not the GPU . Ebay has several replacement options. Get a used lid with LCD and hope it has some hours left on it (about $40-60), purchase a new LCD (about $150) or a refurbished LCD (whatever that means, maybe new backlight?) for $100. Any experience with any of these options. The screen is 14" SXGA.

Refurbished screen is a non-entity. No one replaces the backlight and then sells the LCD for half the price.

New screen...as long as you're getting an original one, and not "compatible" you should be OK.

Used is used, and probably your best bet assuming that the screen was your problem to begin with...

Was the original LCD reddish/pinkish on initial boot prior to its untimely demise?

George,

I am very suspicious that the problem is not the screen as I can get it back (sometimes) by repeatedly going between standby and active modes. I just thought it was gone for good when it came back a few minutes ago as my extended screen while in the docking station. This is very strange.

I have a t21 that definitely has a reddish tint and it has been hanging on for years. My t43 does not have a reddish tint. Any thoughts?

After an inverter replacement failed, I replaced a 14" SXGA lid with a XGA lid, because I couldn't afford a new SXGA. This worked perfectly for me, but if you're planning to use the machine for several more years, get a new one.
