Mandriva 2010 Live CD's, Free DVD's & Powerpack are released
On a few of Mandriva's mirrors, you can now find the Mandriva 2010 Live CD's and Free DVD's. Powerpack is supposed to be available tomorrow. So far, Mandriva's website has not been updated to the fact.

Here is the official website update with download links. Download mirrors may be a little clogged though.

What Thinkpad do you have?
On my T41, I cannot get a wired connection. This is in Gnome, though. I haven't tried the KDE version.

Re: Mandriva 2010 Live CD's, Free DVD's & Powerpack are released
I haven't been home to download the DVD yet and do the installation. Haven't tried using ethernet from the Live CD. I have a T42 with the Intel I82540EP Gigabit Ethernet Controller.
It looks like I am using the e1000 driver module in Mandriva 2009.1 and I believe it works although I rarely use a wired connection to be sure. This e1000 driver is included in kernel-desktop-2.6.31.5-1mnb, and probably other kernels as well. See if you have the following file installed: /lib/modules/<your kernel version>/kernel/drivers/net/e1000/e1000.ko.gz To check your installed kernel, type uname -a in a terminal window.

Make sure you set up your Firewall. I believe it is configured to not allow connections until it is set up.
To set it up, open Configure Your Computer > Security > Set up your personal firewall. On the first page you do not need to check any boxes. On the second page you can choose Use Interactive Firewall and Port scan detection if you wish (I do not use either). On the third page make sure all the connections you use are checked. If you add a connection later, you will need to go to this page again and check the appropriate box.

Re: Mandriva 2010 Live CD's, Free DVD's & Powerpack are released
EDIT:
I tried this but no dice.
I still say it's a Mandriva bug. I should be able to use wired besides wireless. I'm ALSO UNABLE to configure my wireless and connect. It's weird that I could connect via wireless before messing around with firewall settings. Even when I rebooted the CD, it was the same result.
I think the problem is beyond my level of expertise. I can only ask you to try a LiveCD of 2010 and see if you obtain e the same result so you can try your own workaround. Up to you, though. I could be doing something wrong but I think Mandriva dropped the ball as it would have been an excellent release, imho.

I have a Live KDE CD, but I will not have access to a wireless or wired connection until later this week. FWIW, I was able to connect fine from the Live CD using my Sierra Wireless 881 AirCard (cellular GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA).

Re: Mandriva 2010 Live CD's, Free DVD's & Powerpack are released
It was my mistake and totally unrelated to Mandriva!!! I apologize and please accept my most humble apology!!! I didn't mean to waste your time! The ethernet cable somehow became defective and was not working. I tried to plug in the cable to another computer and it didn't work. I grabbed a different ethernet cable and plugged it into the laptop and presto, it works! Mandriva 2010 seems to be great so far! Check my other thread in which I'm asking for which distro to use.GomJabbar wrote:I have a Live KDE CD, but I will not have access to a wireless or wired connection until later this week. I have only tried the Gnome version of Mandriva 2010 so far. It would be nice if the KDE version is as good since I'd have another choice. But, so far, so good. Even desktop effects seem to be okay albeit a bit slow but not bad.
Thanks for the recommendation! I find it surprising that there is such a difference compared to Ubuntu Karmic 9.10!
