HELP! My T41 Drowned! Can It Be Revieved?

#1 Post by mikeb209 » Wed Feb 16, 2005 1:56 am

My T41 fell in my sink while it was full of dish water. The power was on when it fell in. I darted accros the room to get the phone and triped over the cord and it just fell into the sink. :(

There is no power now. There is lots of hard water crust all over the motherboard and some chips and some of the pins on the chips are black also.

I was wondering if I just cleaned the board and all the connectors real good would it possibly work? Or would it work if I got a new motherboard?

Is there any hope for it? Any info would be appreciated

Well. If it does have black components now I don't give you much change :P

But let it dry (but clean it _good_ before) for 2 a 3 days. And then try it again :)

Not really. Sounds beyond repair to me, the best you can do is put your HDD in another machine and see if you can recover your data.

On a side note, your ThinkPad was right next to the sink because......?!! :?

I agree with Bill.

I know people who have spilt coffee on laptops and washed if off under the tap and only the battery has failed.

But if the power was on it probably shorted compontents.

In fact, if you look closely at the keyboard you'll see a little rim around the baseplate (at least on my 15" T42). This is a nice design feature to make the keyboard more spillproof and keep dirt away from the inside of the machine.

It's these little things you hardly notice that make ThinkPads superior to other notebooks!
