Max RAM in a T43?

#1 Post by i-SnipeZ » Wed Nov 04, 2009 3:48 pm

I'm curious how much I could throw in this thing. Right now (at least Windows see's) 2.5gb in there. I'm assuming that is most likely the maximum considering the age of the unit. However, I have an extra 1gb and 2gb stick that need to be used. So what's the max?

Chipset limitation is 2GB, although some machines will boot with 2.5 or 3GB RAM.

In other words, whatever OS you use the maximum addressable RAM is 2GB.

I doubt it makes a huge difference but should I take the 512mb stick out? Would there be any speed benefit from just using the one 2gb stick?

T43 utilises dual-channel RAM, so you should have both slots populated...

Hi, is somewhere described, what machines are able to boot with 3GB RAM?

It's a hit or miss, I haven't been able to reach a conclusion what it depends on, although I did get one T43p to boot with 3GB, but that's about it.

Some won't boot with anything above 2GB...

Mine boots up with 2.5GB and Win 7 sees this amount but can utilize only 2GB. Is there any way to force OS to use full amount of RAM? Just curious....

No way since the chipset is not allowing it.
