T42 won't hibernate or access CD

#1 Post by jetmn » Thu Nov 05, 2009 1:14 pm

I did a bunch of searching for this, but I couldn't find anything with a solution to it. I have a T42 with XP on it and the biggest problem is that it will not hibernate when the lid is closed sometimes. The screen does shut off when the lid is closed, just none of the programs shut down. Fn+x does not work either, none of them (screen brightness does work). When this problem occurs I also lose access to the CD drive.

I checked in the event log and it is getting errors a lot from plugplaymanager event code 12. When the problem happens it tends to hunt for the CD, so I think this is the problem. When I stick a disk in the CD it acts like normal and fires up, it just never shows up with the normal menu when you put a disk in and the drive is not listed in my computer. I made sure all the XP updates were done and went to lenovo's site and put the latest power management software on, nothing helped. The laptop will work just fine for a day or so, then this problem happens. If I shut down and reboot, then everything will be fine for a while again. This problem still happens even when the CD drive is not in the computer. Any help is appreciated!
