T43 - Windows 7 - and display

#1 Post by greeny » Sun Nov 08, 2009 4:28 pm

Dear guys, I am hoping someone can help me. I've got a T43 and I have installed windows 7 on it. I have everything working (wireless etc) except I am having one problem with the graphic display. I don't think I have the X300 graphics card as all the ATI installs I've tried don't seem to make a difference. Windows has installed Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS 910GML Express Chipset family. No matter what I do I cannot get the screen resolution above 1024x768.
It is starting to drive me insane now. I mean, Windows 2000 was installed on this before and I could get a much better resolution than with 7. I would even settle for 1280x1024.
Anyone who could help me with this would save my sanity. There must be a graphic driver out there that can give me a decent screen resolution

Many thanks for any help advice any one can give

The drivers for the T43 are designed for XP and Vista. If you're planning to use Win 7, "sometimes" or "with luck", might work. My opinion, go back to XP for the Video Driver.

What is the machine type/model number from the sticker on the bottom of the Thinkpad? .e.g 2356-3CU - it will be a seven digit alpha numeric.

Hi Harryc, thanks for your reply mate. I've look all over the back labels and the only thing that seems to make sense is it says Type 1871-4AG. Does that help any?

Thanks for your help dude, much appreciated

T43 1871-4AG has a Intel 900 Integrated GPU, not ATI. Have you tried the Intel video driver? I know the Intel Video driver was included with Vista....not sure about W7 but I'd assume yes.

Hi Harryc, Windows 7 actually installed the lastest drivers during an update. I have been unable to find any newer ones but haven't looked at the intel site (I was sort of expecting windows to do that  )

I shall have a look at the Intel site to see what I can find

Thanks again for you help

Try to install the intel chipset inf update. Yes, the Win2K, WinXP version. After that it should pickup the video driver automatically. I installed Win7 on a X41 this way.
T60p 2623-DDU/UXGA IPS/ATI V5200
T60 2623-DCU/SXGA+ IPS/ATI X1400

Hi, I am interested in this thread having just upgraded my t43 to windows 7 from XP SP3. Most things seem to be working OK ... however I am being told by a tracker than my drivers are out of date. I have tried installing the Intel Chip Device SW installer infinst911_autol 9.1.1.1019 but it won't install. Are you saying that I should use the Intel Chip installer version for XP. :?: I am not sure if it ain't broke don't fix it. Thanks for your thoughts....

I have a very similar issue. I have TP T43 -- 2668-K6U -- with ATI Mobility Radeon X300. As noted above, the resolution is horrible. I think things read as correct (1024x768), but it's just fuzzy as it can be.

Any ideas?

ATI and Intel both have the latest drivers for all graphics hardware products for download on their website.

Here's the link for ATI Mobility Radeon X300:

http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages ... n&items=20

From there it should ask for your OS then show you the download links.

I've had similar issues with past laptops; downloading the drivers from their site usually fixes the problem.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

and yes. I am a bit of a lunatic.
