I have R&R disks that worked for a t42 2373. I am trying to use them for a t43 2686.
I used the boot disk and got into the recovery console but when I tried to start the recovery process, it errored out.
Any idea? Would t42 disks work for t43?
Thanks!
t42 recovery disks for t43?

Not a good idea...
T42 and T43 use different HALs, apart from the fact that the hardware is quite different.
Obtain a set of proper recovery media for T43 and enjoy the machine.

So I've been thinking about it. How would a different HAL matter?
After all, lots of machines have lots of different HALs, and you can set all of them up with the same Windows installation disk. I've done multiple installations using IBM/Lenovo recovery sets, and it looks like the first step is almost equivalent to a fresh Windows installation. But maybe it's not quite?
Most of the drivers though will not be available, and you will have to get them manually, which half defeats the purpose of using original recovery disks...

The windows installation disks install the correct HAL for your particular machine. Recovery disks do not. They only recover what is supposed to be there for the model they're intended for.
