Missing part

Hi.

I have just got an used X24 from ebay. It was one of the models without build in antennas.

I want'ed the build in wifi, so I found the manual and purchased a new rear cover and the antennas. But i miss a part and can't fint the part number. On both sides of the LCD there is a hole where i can visually se the antenna. On my T23 there is a plastic peace on these holes.. I need to order this for my X24 but I don't know what part to order. I can't find it in the manual. Can anyone help me? Or give me a clue?

IBM won't even tell me because there is no more warranty on the laptop (Thanks IBM)

Lund,

The earliest that the warranty could be up on this machine is May of 2005, unless it's a refurbished machine.

How do you know that the warranty is expired? Where are you located? (Please update your profile!)

I don't understand what part or parts you're looking for, could you explain it a bit more clearly?

Are you looking for the ridged inserts that cover the antennae in the display? They're part of the rear cover assembly for the WiFi equipped machines and should come with the rear cover P/N 26P9819, but perhaps you need LCD Misc. Parts 26p9826.

I have tried to include an image so you can se the specifik problem. It is taken with my baaad Nokia mobile phone, so the quality is bad. But I hope you can se the problem.

I already have the parts you surgested, and the "plate" isn't included. Have a look, if you need further information, please ask.

Hey...

I was under the impression that those pieces are part of the screen cover assembly. Did you actually have those pieces when you baught the unit? If so what have you done with them and why can't you just put them back in.

The old screen was an "non-antenna" model. The non-antenna model doesn't have these "holes". So i can't steal them from the old plate.

I will be phoning an techichian with the danish IBM spare part center tomorrow, it could be a missing part from the set.

Ask the service person if the LCD Misc. Parts kit no. 26p9826 contains the pieces you're looking for.

Hi James.

The lady at the Danish support line told me that the warranty ran out because I changed the cover of the screen and installed Wifi antennas. I did purchase the 26p9826 FRU but there were no plates in this kit. I will ask them tomorrow if this was a mistake.

I just talked to the spareparts department at IBM-Denmark.

I have never talked to such in-competent people before.

I told them that i thought there was a missing part in my LCD MISC set i bought. At first they told me that they have no way of knowing. Then I startet telling them, that it must be up to them to prove that my product wasn't missing a part. They are now sending an email to Holland asking what should be in this LCD MISC set. I will get an answer in the middle of next week. Geeezz.

Still nobody has a better idea than the 26P9826 FRU? I noticed that the part is similar on my T23 back home. I have looked in the T23 hardware maintenance guide, but I can't find it in there either.

get the HMM for the X24..
it should have a description of the parts in all the misc. parts kits and one of them should include the missing plastic antenna covers..

I have the HMM in pdf format, and the part is not pictured anywhere - not even the IBM spareparts center in Denmark can locate the part. I have looked in an T23 hmm, the part isn't even listed here (I have an T23 with wifi and the same plastic covers) it is strange that nobody knows this part.
