you didn't mention if you had the 64bit version.
you need to unzip the file and you will see the .exe file referenced in the instructions. click on the .exe file and use the wizard, i just tried it so I know it's there.
If not just follow this step by step:
Manual Update
Print these instructions or display on another computer.
Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
Start Windows 7 32-bit, Vista 32-bit, XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer.
Double-click 7buj27us.exe to extract it to your hard drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7buj27us.
For Windows 7 and Vista, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run... For Windows XP, click Start, then click Run...
Specify WINUPTP.EXE with the full path name where you saved the package, then click OK. Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7buj27us\WINUPTP.EXE
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Select Update ThinkPad BIOS and follow the instructions on the screen.
After the update has been completed, the program shows a message Flash Update has been successfully completed.... Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer.

Re: need help updating bios x60
You've downloaded the alternative method to updating the BIOS. You can either download the other file and follow the instructions from Kyocera or you need to burn the ISO file you already have onto a CD-R (or CD-RW), boot from that CD and type "command". This will give you a menu to update the BIOS.

Re: need help updating bios x60
Prepare the boot device
The resulting CD-R or CD-RW disc includes an operating system and is bootable on the supported ThinkPad models.
Note: The System Program Service Utility bootable CD supports only the ThinkPad Ultrabay Optical Disc Drive in the ThinkPad Ultrabay. (Not in the Docking Station Ultrabay)
after i prepared the bootable cd, i reboot the machine to boot from my disc drive in my x6 ultrabase, it fails to reboot from there...
how do we do this then since x60 relies on either optical drive in docking station ultrabay or usb-disc drive?

Re: need help updating bios x60
You need to hit f12 when the machine is booting up, with the dock attached with the cd in the drive and select the field "boot from CD/DVD drive" or words to that effect in the boot selection list. If you can't get it to boot from the CD drive in the dock, you will have to use the manual method.
It's a drag they dont have the web bios update option for this model, makes it easier.

Re: need help updating bios x60
Update**
Well I tried this because I was curious to see how the manual procedure works.
1. Checked to make sure I had the referenced MS Update installed (it's part of SP1)
2. Downloaded 7buj27us.exe .
3. Extracted the contents per instructions.
4. Made sure the FLASH file was there.
5. Opened the command prompt in admin mode.
6. Copied and pasted the path to the flash folder at the command prompt.
7 The BIOS updete screen appeared immediately (Grey box with choice to update bios or serial number).
So this does work. I stopped there because my bios is up to date.
Hope that Helps.

Re: need help updating bios x60
I believe there may be a problem with the burning itself. The second file, around 5500 kB in size, needs to be burned as a CD image - you burn this one file, and on the resulting CD, there will be many files (which you can perhaps see inside the 5500 kB file). If not, then something's been done wrong.
It works from optical drive in Ultrabase. No USB optical drive can be used for this purpose.

Re: need help updating bios x60
alrighty after following all the correct procedures suggested by kyocera and morkli i think i'm almost there...
however the last part i need to make sure is getting a brand new blank cd (because last time i run out of blank cd hence i used blank dvd instead to make the bootable dvd, thinking that it wouldn't make a difference). yes, zender, i checked the burning process somehow must be messed up because i didn't see any files in the dvd now. i
thanks for the help guys, i'll update the post once done.

Re: need help updating bios x60 *update-still not succesful*
*update*
i once again try to make a bootable cd, still using roxio software from pre-installed in my system(already updated to the latest by tvsu).
what i did was:
1.open roxiodata
2.click 'make bootable'
3.choose 'iso file (5500kb)
4.click 'burn/start'
again the cd resulted 'missing operating system' msg when booting using it.
i followed zender's suggestion above to explore the cd, it shows no file visible.
what else can i try?

Re: need help updating bios x60
Try another freeware .iso burner isoburner or one of the others. When you burn the image file just select burn iso image, an iso image should already be bootable so I don't think you need to add any bootfiles to it.

Re: need help updating bios x60
thx mods... i used that other burning software and successfully made the bootable disc that works.
since i already have the same version of the bios (not-modded), therefore i typed in 'flash2 /u' in the command prompt.
Then it starts flashing, after a while suddenly the machine beeps seamlessly for like 3 seconds (i admit i almost dropped my balls under the table that time), then it says 'flashing DONE'.
I removed the disc from the drive, while it rebooted itself, then here i am.
Zender: i will be posting in the website to add that list of successful flashing up
Thanks guys
note: and for that roxio software came pre-installed, i conclude that it's been giving more headaches than discs that work to me since this is not the first time it refused to produce good discs.

Re: need help updating bios x60
Hi everyone, I tried to update my X60s with Zender's bios (Díky:) but had some issues:
- I don't have the Ultrabase so I'm not able to use the burned .iso as a bootable CD.
- I have copied the content of the .iso to c:\ on a spare HDD with FAT filesystem, then booted DOS and tried to flash my bios with flash2 /u (because I already have the latest Lenovo BIOS installed). This ended with an error message that the BIOS is not intended for my machine, but hopefuly no harm was done.
Any ideas what to do? I'd try to flash it again from a command prompt (started as administrator) in Windows 7. What do you think? Can I flash it from whichever folder or does it have to be in c:\ ? Did anyone tried this before?
EDIT: Issue solved, see the next post.

OK, after some time looking for a solution I found the way to go. No need for DOS USB CD-Rom drivers
1) HP USB Disk Storage Tool
2) make a bootable USB with the Tool, using Windows 98 boot record
3) extract Zender's .iso and copy all those files to the USB root folder (but no need to copy command.com)
4) reboot, flash2.exe /u
Now I wait for an airmail to deliver my desired WiFi card..
Can't wait!
Cheers, M.

I burned 2.18 .iso from some old Nero suite I had from years ago at max speed on a crappy CD brand. Booted right away, no problem. I didn't want to take chances with the .exe.
