T23 Battery in T30?

#1 Post by brooklynboy » Tue Nov 10, 2009 4:42 pm

Can I use a T23 battery in a T30 by filing away any interfering plastic from the battery's case?

I'm sure I've seen a thread on this, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks in advance.

I know for a fact that you can use a T30 battery in a T23, so I'd assue that the opposite is possible. It's not a popular hack since you have to cut up the battery. Maybe Ray has tried it. He'll be by later on to answer I am sure.

Thanks.

The voltage is the same and the capacity only slightly less, so I figured that it should work. The T23 is long gone, so I don't mind defacing the battery if it gets my T30 going again.

I've tried a T23 battery in a T30, and it works, if you cut out the same corner as you find in a T30 battery.
However, T23 batteries are lower capacity than T30 ones.

Excellent, thanks.

ETA: Or not so.

I removed the corner with a saw and filed it smooth in a jiffy. However, the battery did not drop into the T30 slot, as it is slightly too wide in the section that is inserted first. Upon closer examination, the contour of the underside of the T23 battery in that section is also different from that of the T30 battery: the T23 is uniformly thick, whereas the T30 has deep longitudinal grooves in the bottom that correspond to longitudinal ridges in the battery compartment.

The T23 battery is FRU 02K7026, the T30 is 02K7072.

Are you sure that you've made this work?

Unfortunately I've not ever tried to install a T30 battery into a T2x chassis.

There was a thread that said it was possible, but I cant find it. It might have been an aftermarket battery that would fit.
