T61 Ram speed..faster than DDR2 667 / PC2 5300?

I just wanted to confirm that we could run ram like DDR2 800 / PC2 6400 in our T61 laptops..

Seems like everyone runs PC 5300 but can't these machines use the faster DDR2 rams?

It'll work, but it downclocks. I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Why does it downclock? Is it a chipset thing or a software thing?

So the reason no one gets anything other than 5300 is because there is no point..

The bus speed of the machine controls it. I buy PC5300, PC5400 or PC6400, whatever I find cheapest.
