X61s with Intel 4965agn and Dlink DIR-615 only give 130Mbps
The best I could do was 130Mbps. I read Dlink posting about limits on this Intel card. What is correct?
Would getting the DIR-655 or what other router be the fix or is the Intel 4865AGN not capable of handling bonding at 40MHZ channel or is the DIR-615 not capable of 5MHz is the problem??. I have the latest Lenovo drivers already. This is not of grave issue, just wondering why 2 N products can't work.

Feb 2008=Thinkpad X61s; 2x faster than X40 but not as asthetic.
Dec 2005=Thinkpad X40; perfect, but bigger than 240x.
Jan 2005=Thinkpad 240x; used; fast but dead pixels doomed it.
2003=Thinkpad 240; used,
1998=new Toshiba Tecra 740CDT. Pricey, heavy & last 5 year.

The D-Link 615 is a single band router operating solely in the 2.4GHz WiFi band.red bioroid wrote:The best I could do was 130Mbps. I read Dlink posting about limits on this Intel card. What is correct?
The IEEE 802.11n standard group decided that 802.11n operation solely in the 2.4GHz band was unstustainable, as a 40MHz channel wiped out too much of the band for 802.11b/g operation, and this was reflected in the 802.11n Draft 2 (and later) release of the standard.
The Intel 4965AGN card is fully compliant with the 802.11n Draft 2 standard and will only operate 40MHz channels in the 5GHz WiFi band.
You need a router that supports 802.11n operation in the 5GHz band to achive 270Mbps throughput with any of the Intel "n" cards.
I am using an Linksys WRT-600N with Intel 4965AGN and WiFi Link 5300 cards in various ThinkPads. This provides good 270Mbps raw link throughput for me.
Cheers,
Bill B.

Off topic, but a quick question for Bill. Have you tried a mixed (802.11bgn) environment with the Linksys WRT-600N?. I have everything here from laptops with 802.11b PCMCIA cards, to the T500 with the Intel 5300 card in it. My particular router, a Belkin, doesn't operate well in mixed mode. I generally have to drop everything down to 802.11g.

My pre *6* Thinkpads only have 802.11g as their fastest WiFi protocol, so I'm still using the 2.4GHz band for 802.11g traffic. With a dual band router, like the WRT-600N, 802.11g traffic on the 2.4GHz WiFi band and 802.11n traffic on the 5GHz WiFi band co-exist without any interference at all.Harryc wrote:Off topic, but a quick question for Bill. Thanks, I may try that router. I guess the WRT610N is the latest model? Here's the specs for mine -

The issue is that 'n' devices disconnect intermittently while running in mixed mode.

Yes, it is.Harryc wrote:Thanks, I may try that router. I guess the WRT610N is the latest model?
That Belkin router is single band (2.4GHz), and you are experiencing the issue I mentioned previously above...... a dual band router will definitely address your disconnection issues.Harryc wrote:Here's the specs for mine - The issue is that 'n' devices disconnect intermittently while running in mixed mode.

I did end up getting the WRT610N. It works great for every type of wireless connection I throw at it, and no more disconnect issues ...very nice (and fast) router. Thanks for the recommendation.
