Seems the upcoming IE 7 won't support Win 2000:

The article I read said it needed XP SP2 to support IE 7. I kind of hope they (MS) relent. After all Windows 2000 is still a supported OS, and still in some considerable use. Also, the only software I see that won't run on less than XP is Clear Type. There are versions of everything else for Windows 2000. MS may face more uprisings on this issue - we'll see.

the IE Release is basically a Security Release.... useless without SP2.........

Doesn't MSFT support for Win2000 expire sometime soon anyway. Maybe the IE guys know this and are just planing on supporting the offically supported OSes when IE 7 ships to production. The summer timeline for IE 7 is just for the beta.
