Windows 7 64 bit on X61--two driver questions

#1 Post by fritz_the_blank » Sun Nov 15, 2009 1:08 pm

Hello and thank you for reading my question.

I've preformed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate on my x61. Everything seems to be in order except for two driver issues. When I open the Device Manager, I see exclamation marks beside the following:

-Bluetooth Peripheral Device
-PCI Memory Controller

I would appreciate any advice.

Best,

FtB

Have you gone to Windows Update and checked for Hardware Updates?

Have you installed the drivers from Lenovo's website?

Thank you to both for replying.

I've tried using all of the Lenovo updates. I'm wondering if the PCI Memory Controller has anything to do with the Matrix Storage Manager as that tried to install but resulted in ye ol' bluescreen.

So in short, I've installed of the Lenovo updates save the MSM and have all of the latest updates from the MS Update site.

If I could identify what two pieces of hardware those really are, then I might be a step closer to finding the correct drivers.

Any thoughts?

I just installed Windows 7 on my x61s. Everything works and when I went to device manager all my drivers are accounted for without me having to download anything.

However, should I install any Lenovo drivers?

My trackpoint seems to be a bit slower than before even though I have it set at the highest speed. I looked for the trackpoint driver thinking that might make a difference, but couldn't find a driver for Windows 7 on the Lenovo website.

just an update if anyone's interested...

the trackpoint driver came up during automatic updates. i was then able to set my trackpoint to a much faster speed. then when i connected my mouse, it went away. after several restarts, it came back again by itself.

also with the automatic update came "thinkpad modem" and "thinkpad display"

Having problems with trackpoint driver

#7 Post by x61s » Tue Dec 22, 2009 7:01 pm

Well, I'm still having problems with the trackpoint driver. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I like the trackpoint to be set at the fastest and most sensitive setup. But sometimes, I notice that it isn't as fast... so when I look at the "mouse" in control panel, the tab for trackpoint is missing. When it's working properly it's there. On some startups it works fine, and on other startups it doesn't. I can't figure out why. I've tried reinstalling the driver, but same thing.

Any advice?

You might want to post over at Lenovo Forums and see if someone from Lenovo can look into this or see if someone there has a solution.
